Strangely, I avoided Nirvana as a youngster. I don’t really know why because according to the other stuff I was listening to, I should have liked them. Maybe I felt exhausted from hearing them on the radio all the time or seeing their band shirts everywhere; the cult of worship surrounding them and Kurt Cobain was repulsive to me. Ironically, perhaps I could identify a little bit with how Kurt was feeling at the peak explosion of their fame, which as we all know did not end well.
Years later with a fresh and open mind, I’ve grown to realize how great they were. Nevermind is a perfect rock album. Incredible, yet simple songwriting that is a catchy as it is loud and aggressive. An album that never gets old, probably because it is timeless.
