Record of the day: Saratoga Trunk “Rebekah” LP.
We live in an age where the internet has left very few stones unturned. Based on what I can see though, this seemingly short-lived Nashville group is an exception. The only info that turns up mentions the drummer Larrie Londin, who was an active session player that has quite the resume, playing with acts like Journey, Emmylou Harris, Diana Ross, The Temptations, Dolly Parton, and many more.
What we have here is country-soul-rock à la Dusty Springfield. Although not credited anywhere in the album notes, we’ll assume that Rebekah is the vocalist and she has some pipes for sure. The musicianship is strong and enthusiastic and for me borders on hilarity at times with Londin playing what I consider to be overly-complicated drum fills and patterns that belong more on something like a Weather Report record than a lounge-y feeling country soul LP.
A cool and obscure private press record lost to time, and even the internet. This copy is VG+ and $60. Buy it here
