While maybe not a household name, bassist Tyrone Brunson laid down some killer tunes in the golden era of early 80s funk & boogie. His biggest hit was “The Smurf” off of 1983’s “Sticky Situation” LP, and although there weren’t any follow-up hits, “Fresh” is a well-crafted album of stripped-down electro funk. His sound leans heavily into the electronic side of things, with plenty of analog synth and drum machine action which is music to my ears! Being a funk album released in 1984, there’s an obvious Prince & The Revolution influence on this one too.
